Fatal Lake Wales car crash death of Nakeyma Williams – Obituary
On Friday night, a tragic two-vehicle collision near Lake Wales resulted in the death of Nakeyma Williams, 32, from Lake Placid.
The accident, which occurred around 8:19 p.m. on State Road 60 West, approximately four miles west of U.S. 27, involved Williams’ tan 2011 Toyota Camry and a gray 2022 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Leo Cowder III, 51, of Lake Wales.
Polk County Fire Rescue attended the scene and treated four individuals who were subsequently cleared. The Dodge Ram carried Leo Cowder III along with passengers Stacy Cowder, 48, Gracie Cowder, 18, and two young children, ages 4 and 3.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Williams was traveling westbound on SR 60 when her vehicle veered off the road, crossed the median, and collided with the Cowders’ truck.
Investigators noted that there were no signs indicating Williams tried to stop before the crash, and she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, while all occupants in the Dodge were properly restrained.
Traffic homicide detectives from the Sheriff’s Office are continuing their investigation into the incident.
