Fatal New Castle County car crash death of Catherine Spanos – Obituary

Authorities have confirmed the identity of the woman who lost her life after a vehicle collided with a tree in New Castle County on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m. at Rittenhouse Park, located on the 200 block of West Chestnut Hill Road in Newark, Delaware.

According to police reports, officers responded to a call about a disturbance at the park. Upon arrival, they discovered a Ford F150 pickup truck that had crashed into a tree.

In the backseat of the vehicle, authorities found Catherine Spanos, a 46-year-old resident of Newark, who had suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators suspect that the truck was speeding as it exited the park and veered off the gravel road before hitting the tree. The driver fled the scene prior to the police’s arrival.

On Monday, officials revealed they have identified the male driver involved in the accident, although his name has not been disclosed, and no charges have been filed yet. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Newark police department at 302-366-7100.
