Fatal Concord shooting death of Mario Sanchez-Mata – Obituary
A Concord resident was taken into custody on Monday after allegedly confessing to fatally shooting his brother over the weekend.
Law enforcement officials responded to a residence on Plantation Road after the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office reported that Mario Sanchez-Mata, 29, had admitted to killing his 33-year-old brother, Jose Sanchez-Mata, early on Saturday, August 3.
Shortly afterward, 911 operators received a distress call from the same address, this time from a woman reporting that her partner was deceased.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered that Jose had sustained gunshot wounds.
Investigators believe the shooting was not a random act but rather a result of an ongoing dispute between the siblings.
Mario has been charged with second-degree murder and the illegal discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure.
