On Sunday night in Raeford, 44-year-old Christopher M. Purcell was tragically killed in a shooting, according to the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrived at the scene at the intersection of Huckabee Street and Phillipi Church Road around 9:41 p.m. to find Purcell suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Authorities have informed his next of kin.
The sheriff’s office reported that both their detectives and special operations unit, along with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, were involved in responding to the incident.
The investigation remains active, and no details about potential suspects have been disclosed.
