Fatal La Salle County crash death of Betty L. Gillette – Obituary
An 86-year-old woman from Ottawa, Betty L. Gillette, tragically lost her life in a collision on Monday. The incident occurred on Route 251 at the intersection with North 17th Road, situated between Lostant and Tonica.
Ms. Gillette was riding in a vehicle traveling east on North 17th Road when the car failed to yield at a stop sign and collided with another vehicle heading north, according to a news release from the La Salle County Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the eastbound vehicle was transported to a local hospital, while the driver of the northbound car was airlifted to a Peoria hospital by OSF’s Life Flight helicopter.
A forensic autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the cause of death, with preliminary findings yet to be released.
The crash remains under investigation by the La Salle County Coroner’s Office, the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office, and the Illinois State Police Reconstruction Unit.
