Fatal Philadelphia shooting death of William Torres-Espinal – Obituary
Philadelphia authorities have identified the victim of a tragic shooting incident that occurred on Roosevelt Boulevard.
On Wednesday, 25-year-old William Torres-Espinal from Oxford Circle was discovered fatally wounded inside an SUV in the northbound lanes of the Boulevard in Hunting Park.
Initially reported as a car accident, the scene revealed that Torres-Espinal had sustained a gunshot wound to his back. It appears that two bullets had penetrated the rear window of the SUV, with one hitting him. The origin of the gunfire remains unknown.
The SUV, which had been traveling in the northbound inner lanes, collided with a minivan before coming to a halt on the median. A firearm registered to Torres-Espinal was found inside the vehicle. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
“He was the most loving person I knew,” said Geudy Torres, the victim’s brother. “The most precious soul I’ve known. I always wanted to be just like him in my life.”
The family is grappling with shock and sorrow following the incident. “He was a good boy. They break my heart,” said Romann Torres, the victim’s uncle. Geudy Torres added, “He just wanted to have a good life and be at least successful enough to have a family with his wife.”
Torres-Espinal was on his way home from his job at Beembo Bakeries USA when the shooting occurred.
The company expressed their grief, stating, “We were devastated to learn of the death of one of our associates, who was a reliable and valued member of our team. Our hearts go out to William’s family and friends.”
Authorities hope for a swift resolution to the case, with loved ones seeking justice for the victim. “He can pay in jail for killing my good nephew,” said Torres.
This incident was one of four homicides reported in Philadelphia on Wednesday. In North Philadelphia, a 32-year-old man was shot three times near Girard Avenue and North 12th Street at around 8 a.m.
Later in West Philadelphia, a 25-year-old man was fatally shot on North 54th Street by Peach Street at approximately 1:20 p.m. Another fatal shooting occurred in North Philadelphia around 9:30 p.m. on Park Avenue and Rush Street, captured by real-time crime cameras.
Despite these recent events, Philadelphia’s murder rate has shown a significant decline this year. Homicides have decreased by 37 percent compared to last year, with 161 reported so far, the lowest number for this period since 2015.
As is standard in Philadelphia, a $20,000 reward is available for information leading to an arrest and conviction in homicide cases.
