Layna Brown Dies in Fatal Chilliwack Crash

Fatal Chilliwack crash death of Layna Brown – Obituary

Support is coming from across the province for the family affected by a tragic collision on the Trans-Canada Highway in Chilliwack on Tuesday. Layna Brown, 40, and her eight-year-old son Dominic Dyck were killed instantly in the accident.

Dominic’s twin brother Tristan was airlifted to a Vancouver hospital and is now in critical condition in the ICU.

A GoFundMe campaign organized by Dirrae Young from Kelowna highlights the urgent need for support. Young, a cousin of Layna Brown, shared that Layna’s father, a retired paramedic, along with her mother, sister, and partner Cory, are all hoping and praying for Tristan’s recovery, which will require significant time and resources.

The campaign was initially set to raise $25,000 but has already surpassed $70,000 within a day, reflecting the community’s outpouring of support.

The family, based in Maple Ridge, has been deeply affected by this loss. The Ridge Meadows Minor Hockey Association praised Brown as a dedicated volunteer who significantly contributed to the hockey community.

In the wake of the accident, Big Feast Bistro, where Brown was employed, has temporarily closed to allow staff time to mourn. The establishment posted a brief message on social media: “Our hearts are heavy, and we are closed until further notice. We will miss you, Layna!”

The crash, which involved six vehicles, led to the closure of Hwy 1 for 12 hours. According to police, Tristan was the only individual to suffer serious injuries. Initial investigations by the BC Highway Patrol suggest that an obstruction on the roadway caused one or more vehicles to stop suddenly, leading to a chain reaction of collisions. Authorities have ruled out impairment as a factor.
