Toronto police have released the identities of two out of the three individuals who were fatally shot at a North York business on Monday. The victims have been identified as Arash Missaghi, 54, from Toronto, and Samira Yousefi, 44, from Concord. Authorities have not yet disclosed photographs of the deceased.
The third fatality, a 46-year-old man, is suspected to be the perpetrator of the shooting, although his identity has not been revealed.
The incident took place at approximately 3:35 p.m. on Mallard Road, near Don Mills Road. Initial reports suggest there was a confrontation at the business before the shooting occurred.
Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered three individuals who had died.
A report by the Toronto Star from March 6, 2018, mentions an Arash Missaghi who faced charges related to a $17-million mortgage fraud case. The charges included fraud over $5,000, conspiracy to commit an indictable offense, being an accessory after the fact to an indictable offense, and uttering forged documents. CBC Toronto has not confirmed the accuracy of this report.
The shooting occurred near a daycare and a school, both of which were placed under lockdown. After a thorough search by the police’s emergency task force and canine units, the lockdown was lifted, and children were permitted to leave.
Authorities are encouraging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
