Devrey LaRiccia, a skydiving instructor, tragically lost his life on Friday after being caught in a brief whirlwind and crashing into a field in Southern California. The accident occurred during a tandem jump, resulting in the death of his student as well.
The student, identified as Kayla Black, was rushed to the hospital following the incident, but succumbed to her injuries two days later. Both victims were part of a skydive in Perris, located in Riverside County, where officials confirmed their identities.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies arrived at Skydive Perris, renowned as one of the largest and most advanced drop zones in the world, around 2:30 p.m. on the day of the accident. Skydive Perris is situated approximately 70 miles southeast of Los Angeles and 80 miles north of San Diego.
