The Huntsville Police Department has reported the death of 20-year-old Alyssa Hurley in a two-vehicle collision that occurred on Wednesday.
A spokesperson from HPD confirmed that Hurley was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
According to Don Webster, a spokesperson for HEMSI, the crash happened around 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 72 East and Shields Road.
Webster stated that the incident involved a semi-truck and a car, with the vehicle, a Toyota Camry, ending up beneath the truck after the collision.
HPD’s report suggests that the truck was stationary at a traffic light when it was struck by the Camry.
Multiple emergency services responded to the scene, including Moores Mill Volunteer Fire/Rescue, Huntsville Fire & Rescue, Madison County Rescue Squad, and Central Fire/EMS.
The eastbound lanes of the highway are currently closed, and there are significant delays for westbound traffic.
Motorists traveling on I-565/Highway 72 towards Gurley are advised by Moores Mill Volunteer Fire/Rescue to use Old Gurley Road or seek alternate routes.
Webster indicated that no other injuries were reported.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by HPD.
