The San Luis Obispo Police Department has identified a suspect and impounded the vehicle believed to be involved in a deadly hit-and-run incident that occurred in July. The announcement was made by the department on Thursday through a post on X.
On July 23, 87-year-old Saul Goldberg and a 73-year-old man from Avila Beach were riding electric bicycles on South Higuera Street, near a cemetery, when they were struck by an unknown vehicle. The first bicycle was sideswiped, and the second one was hit directly, according to police reports.
Despite wearing helmets, both men were thrown to the ground. Goldberg was transported to the hospital in critical condition but sadly succumbed to his injuries on July 30. The 73-year-old cyclist sustained minor to moderate injuries.

Witnesses reported seeing a white four-door sedan fleeing the scene after the collision, with the driver wanted for questioning.
On Thursday, the police executed a search warrant and confiscated the suspect’s vehicle. As of the latest update, the suspect had not been arrested or identified publicly. The police have indicated that further details will be released as they become available.
