Emergency responders arrived around 12:55 p.m. and found significant damage to several vehicles and multiple individuals injured.
Wanda Navarro, a passenger in the Dodge Ram, was transported to Elliot Hospital but succumbed to her injuries. James Navarro, the driver, sustained minor injuries and was evaluated at the scene. A passenger in the GMC Sierra was seriously injured but is expected to survive.
The crash led to the closure of all northbound lanes and one southbound lane for approximately three hours. Investigators are still determining what caused the Dodge Ram to cross the median, and no charges have been filed at this time.
