A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Buckles’ family, with nearly $4,000 raised toward a $5,500 goal as of Thursday morning. The fundraiser’s organizers described the financial burden his loved ones now face, stating they need assistance to cover funeral and memorial expenses.

The Buckles/Lee family shared their heartbreak over his loss, saying that Vincent, known as “Vinny,” was shot and killed unexpectedly in his home, with his young daughter present. They described him as a devoted father, son, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend who always prioritized his family.

Yasin Morrison dies in fatal Newark shooting

Fatal Newark shooting death of Yasin Morrison – Obituary

A 9-year-old boy, Yasin Morrison, was shot and killed Friday evening in Newark, while a 36-year-old man was wounded in a separate shooting a few blocks away, authorities reported.

The tragic incident occurred near the intersection of Yates Avenue and Osborne Terrace shortly before 6 p.m., according to Carmen Martin, spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. Officials have not confirmed any connection between the two shootings.

Yasin had taken an Uber with his father and sister to visit his grandparents when the shooting happened. As he was stepping out of the car, gunfire erupted. His father tried to shield him and his sister by pushing them back inside the vehicle, but a bullet struck Yasin in the back of the head, his aunt Lataisha Morrison recounted.

Standing just feet from where her nephew was shot, Ms. Morrison expressed her disbelief and sorrow. “I can’t understand why this happened to him,” she said. She described Yasin as a special child who was nonverbal and autistic, loved his family, and had been eager to visit his grandparents after being sick for two weeks.

Authorities have not made any arrests, and the Newark Police Department declined to comment on the investigation. Mayor Ras J. Baraka condemned the shooting, calling it “sickening” and urging anyone with information to come forward.

Elijah Smith, a 17-year-old neighbor, was outside when he saw a black sedan pull up and heard gunshots moments later. His mother, Elizabeth Smith, also heard the shots and immediately called 911. When emergency responders arrived, she directed them to the scene.

Ms. Smith watched as police lifted Yasin’s body and rushed him to the hospital, reflecting on the heartbreaking loss. “A little boy just lost his life,” she said, visibly shaken.
