On the evening of December 13, 2024, at approximately 6:37 p.m., a tragic crash occurred on State Route 172 near milepost 30 in Paris Township, Stark County. Brandon R. Evans, a 42-year-old resident of Malvern, was driving his silver 2016 Chevy Silverado eastbound when he lost control of the vehicle. The truck veered off the road, hitting a traffic sign, a culvert, and multiple trees before overturning and coming to a stop in a wooded area.
Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Evans was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities reported that Evans was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the incident, and alcohol may have been a contributing factor. The crash is still under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Police responded to a 911 call about a possible shooting just before midnight on December 12 and found Pilgreen lying face down on the concrete. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an investigation, Liberty Police Department identified Christopher Jamal Wickliff as a suspect. An arrest warrant for murder, a first-degree felony, was issued against him by Judge Chap Cain of the 253rd District Court. Additionally, Crystal Nicole Salinas was charged with failure to report a felony.
The police credited tips from the public and assistance from multiple agencies, including the Liberty County District Attorney’s Office, Dayton Police Department, Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, the media, and the Texas Department of Public Safety, in advancing the case.
