Columbus police have identified 19-year-old Gene Sutton as the victim of a deadly shooting that occurred Sunday afternoon on the city’s Southwest Side. Sutton, a resident of the North Side, was found by officers responding to a shooting report shortly before 3:20 p.m. in the 1400 block of Demorest Road in the Amercrest neighborhood. He was rushed to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:47 p.m., less than 30 minutes after the shooting.
Authorities have released additional images of three male suspects connected to the incident. Surveillance footage captured Sutton meeting with at least two males in a strip mall parking lot in the area prior to the shooting. At some point during this encounter, one of the suspects fired at Sutton, who then fled in a maroon Ford F-150 pickup. He lost control of the vehicle and crashed on a bridge just south of Bonnie Court, according to police reports.
Following the shooting, the suspects were seen fleeing into the Post Oak Station apartment complex located adjacent to the strip mall. Columbus police are urging residents in the area to review their surveillance footage for any sightings of the suspects before or after the incident. Investigators believe these individuals either live in or frequently visit the Post Oak Station complex.
