It is believed that Johanna was driving and entered the freeway incorrectly at the Azle Avenue exit ramp. Following the collision, the vehicle fire caused extensive damage, complicating potential toxicology tests.

Following the crash, all northbound lanes of I-95 were closed for about two hours while authorities managed the scene and cleared debris.

 

This incident marks the second fatal crash this month on I-95 related to vehicles crossing the median. The New Hampshire Department of Transportation is currently considering the installation of median barriers on this stretch of highway to enhance safety. Hayden from New Kensington, and two adult passengers in his vehicle sustained minor injuries. One passenger was taken to Indiana Regional Medical Center for further treatment.

 

Trooper Cliff Greenfield, spokesperson for State Police Troop A in Indiana, reported that officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of Route 85 shortly after 6:25 p.m. Upon arrival, they learned that Gittings was riding his 2019 Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound when he crossed into the westbound lane, colliding with Hayden’s westbound 2015 Dodge Caravan.

 

Both vehicles were subsequently removed from the scene by Sabo’s Towing. The Troop A Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Specialist Unit also arrived to assist with the investigation.

 

Additional support at the scene was provided by several agencies, including the Indiana County Emergency Management Agency/911, Citizens’ Ambulance Service, Marion Center and Plumville Volunteer Fire Departments, the Indiana County District Attorney’s Office, and the Indiana County Coroner’s Office. The crash resulted in the closure of Route 85 for approximately three hours as emergency personnel managed the situation.
