Fatal Middletown car crash claims the life of Geiner Hidalgo – Obituary
A tragic wrong-way collision on I-75 in Middletown left one person dead and another injured on Saturday afternoon, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. when the OSHP responded to a two-vehicle crash near mile post 33 on I-75 in Middletown.
Upon their arrival, troopers discovered that the driver of one vehicle, identified as Geiner Hidalgo, 46, of Dayton, had died at the scene.
The other driver involved was taken to Atrium Hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Investigations revealed that Hidalgo was driving a 2016 Nissan SUV northbound on I-75 when a 2011 Ford pick-up truck, traveling southbound in the northbound lanes, collided with his vehicle head-on.
Both vehicles veered off the left side of the road and came to a halt against the concrete barrier wall on the shoulder.
For a brief period, the northbound lanes of I-75 were closed to allow for the crash investigation.
Authorities have not yet determined whether speed or impairment played a role in the crash, nor have they confirmed if any charges will be filed.
The Lebanon post of the OSHP continues to investigate the incident.
