Terrell Miller dies in fatal Macomb shooting
Fatal Macomb shooting death of Terrell Miller – Obituary
The Illinois State’s Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor has concluded that the Macomb police officers involved in a tragic shooting on March 16, which resulted in the deaths of two individuals including 4-year-old Terrell Miller, will not face charges.
Special Prosecutor Jonathan H. Barnard communicated to McDonough County State’s Attorney Matthew Kwacala that after a thorough review of police reports, audio and video recordings from the incident, and training records, no grounds for criminal charges were found.
On the evening of March 16, around 10 p.m., the Macomb Police Department responded to a domestic violence call at an apartment located on the 900 block of N. Charles Street. According to a press release from March 17, officers observed blood in a common area of the building and forcibly entered the apartment after hearing screams from within.
The Illinois State Police (ISP) investigation revealed that police body camera footage, evidence, witness statements, and autopsy reports showed the suspect, identified as 57-year-old Anthony George, initially wielding a knife. The suspect then positioned himself with the 4-year-old boy as a shield, holding a knife against the child’s throat and another at his waist.
In response to the threat, a Macomb officer discharged a weapon, which resulted in the deaths of both the child and the suspect. McDonough County Coroner Eric Jameson confirmed there was no connection between George and the young boy.
Family members later identified the child as Terrell Miller, who was cherished for his love of trains and Spider-Man. Described as a joyful child who always wore a bright smile, Terrell was a miracle to his mother, who had faced difficulties with previous pregnancies.
