Fatal San Jose Highway 85 crash claims the life of 47-year-old Rebecca Olsen – Obituary.
Rebecca Olsen, a 47-year-old resident of San Jose, was tragically killed on Monday when a pickup truck drove the wrong way on Highway 85, resulting in a head-on collision. The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office confirmed Olsen’s identity, while the name of the 14-year-old boy who was with her has not yet been released.
Olsen and the teenager were traveling northbound in a Tesla Model Y when they were struck by a truck driven by 39-year-old Duncan McQuarrie of Orlando, Florida. The accident occurred at approximately 3:40 p.m., with both Olsen and the young passenger losing their lives at the scene. McQuarrie survived but sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital.
Prior to the crash, multiple reports were made to 911 by concerned drivers about the truck driving in the wrong direction. Dashcam footage from one witness captured the truck speeding down the left lane. Authorities have not yet determined if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
