Fatal Jasper County, Indiana shooting death of Rhyker Earl – Obituary
Rhyker Earl passed away after being restrained and pinned to the floor by Jasper County deputies during a seizure in DeMotte, Indiana, according to his family. The 26-year-old father of two was reportedly pleading for his life when deputies arrived at his home on September 8.
The family claims that instead of receiving medical assistance, Earl was handcuffed and restrained, leading to his eventual death two days later. His aunt, Miracle Gawlinski, expressed profound grief, describing the incident as devastating and traumatic.
Following the event, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the emergency call but did not provide further details. They have requested the Indiana State Police to conduct an investigation and have directed all inquiries to that agency.
Earl’s sister, Tara Earl, shared her anguish over the loss of her brother and the impact on his children.
As the community gathered to mourn at Graceway Bible Baptist Church, calls for justice grew louder. The Indiana State Police is leading the investigation, while the Lake County coroner is still determining the cause of death.
The Earl family has engaged attorney Ben Crump to assist in their pursuit of justice.
