Axel J. Steenburg dies in fatal Schoharie limousine crash

Fatal Schoharie limousine crash death of Axel J. Steenburg – Obituary.

New York State Police have confirmed the identities of the 20 individuals who lost their lives in the tragic limousine accident that occurred on Saturday in Schoharie. The incident resulted in the deaths of 18 passengers within the limousine and two pedestrians.

 

Authorities report that the 2001 Ford Excursion limousine was traveling on State Route 30 when it failed to stop at the intersection with State Route 30A. The vehicle then crossed into the parking lot of the Apple Barrel Country Store, where it collided with an unoccupied parked car. This parked vehicle subsequently struck and killed two bystanders.

 

Officials from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) declared this accident the deadliest transportation-related incident in the United States since 2009.

 

On Monday, Governor Andrew Cuomo stated that the limousine had failed inspection the previous month, indicating it should not have been operating on the road. He also revealed that the driver, Scott Lisinicchia, did not possess the necessary license to operate the vehicle.

 

The investigation surrounding this crash remains ongoing.
