Fatal California crash death of a Lompoc woman – Obituary
A tragic accident occurred on Monday afternoon on Highway 166 at Grocer Grade, resulting in the death of a 70-year-old woman from Lompoc. The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was riding as a passenger in a Toyota Tundra pickup when it was struck head-on by a southbound Freightliner truck that crossed into the northbound lanes.
The driver of the pickup, 72-year-old Paul M. Insch, also from Lompoc, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Kern Medical for medical attention. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the Freightliner driver, 24-year-old Harpreet Singh from Bakersfield, suffered only minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
According to the CHP, both occupants of the pickup were wearing their seatbelts, while Singh was not restrained. The cause of the Freightliner’s lane change is still under investigation, and authorities have indicated that drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played a role in the accident.
