Fatal Santa Cruz shooting death of Moses Dollar – Obituary.
Two individuals have been linked to a double shooting incident that occurred in August near The Crow’s Nest restaurant by the Santa Cruz Small Craft Harbor. The Santa Cruz Police Department announced on Tuesday that the suspects in the attempted murder are Moses Dollar and Jakaella Porter.
Last week, detectives located 21-year-old Dollar in Southern California, and, with the help of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, apprehended him. He was transported back to Santa Cruz and booked into the county jail on Monday, according to SCPD.
Authorities noted that Jakaella Porter, a female connected to the case, has an outstanding warrant for conspiracy and attempted homicide, but she remains at large, according to jail records.
The shooting occurred just before 9 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, in a parking lot located between the harbor and The Crow’s Nest restaurant, where two victims sustained life-threatening injuries and were quickly taken to a trauma center.
Police indicated that an “altercation” transpired prior to the shooting, after which a gunman fired shots and fled the scene in a black Dodge Charger. Following a thorough investigation, the SCPD’s Investigation Bureau identified the suspects involved.
Dollar is set to appear in court for an arraignment on Wednesday, facing charges of attempted murder and other firearm-related offenses.
In response to the incident, officials in Santa Cruz have indefinitely canceled a popular beach party event. The Santa Cruz Port District announced the cancellation of the remaining Thursday Night Beach Barbeque events, which are part of a series of free public events organized by The Crow’s Nest.
Port Director Holland MacLaurie stated that this decision was necessary as officials assess the public safety implications related to large gatherings at the harbor.
