Fatal Central Fresno shooting death of Ricardo Martinez Olguin – Obituary

Fresno police have identified the man killed in a shooting while riding his bicycle early Sunday morning in Central Fresno as 40-year-old Ricardo Martinez Olguin.

Olguin was shot just after 4 a.m. while riding his bicycle in the area.

“It’s shocking and heartbreaking,” said Tina Olguin, Ricardo’s sister. “We were horrified to hear the news.”

Authorities responded to a shot spotter alert reporting three gunshots on Floradora Avenue, between Rowell and Barton. There, they discovered Olguin next to his bicycle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.

Although conscious at the scene, Olguin informed officers that an unknown person on a bike had shot him. He was quickly transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

His family is devastated by the loss.

“It’s so hard to believe someone could do this,” Tina added.

Family members described Olguin as a lively individual, loved by many, and a devoted father, uncle, and son.

“Every message, every call, he always greeted me as his beautiful mama,” recalled Socorro Olguin, Ricardo’s mother. “He always said, ‘As long as I’m living, you’ll always be my mama.’”

The family shared fond memories, with Tina recalling how Ricardo had a unique ability to bring joy to others.

“Even on my worst days, he would call me and say something that would make me laugh,” she said. “He just had that gift.”

Olguin leaves behind four children, who are deeply grieving.

“They’re heartbroken,” Tina shared. “He wanted so much for them, always believing they deserved the best.”

His brother-in-law, Joey Medina, noted, “Ricardo wanted his kids to have everything he thought they deserved. He believed they should have the world.”

Fresno police confirmed that Olguin’s death is the 23rd homicide in the city this year.

“We are going to miss him dearly,” said his sister, Emma Medina. “We only hope that justice will be served, and the person responsible for this senseless act is found.”

Detectives are still investigating the incident, working to determine a motive and identify a suspect. They continue to canvass the area for witnesses and review surveillance footage.
