A tragic accident on Highway 6 in Price, Utah, resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including a pregnant woman, Mai Lor, who was one of two couples killed in the crash. The victims were part of a group from Minnesota and a man from Helper who was riding an ATV. The couples were vacationing in Utah when their vehicle collided with a semi, leading to a fatal head-on impact.
The incident occurred after an SUV on the highway overshot an acceleration lane, hitting the semi, which then collided with a Nissan Rogue carrying the two couples. Sadly, all four people inside the Rogue perished, including 25-year-old Mai Lor, who was expecting a child. Friends shared on social media that the couple had recently gotten married in March. Another member of the group mentioned that the couples had six children.
The ATV rider, identified as 35-year-old Gustavo Mendoza from Helper, was also killed when the semi struck his ATV. This path is frequently used by cyclists and ATV riders, making the event seem even more random and tragic, according to Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) Sergeant Chris Pugliese.
Moua, 26, and Thao, 38, were also confirmed as victims, along with the other couple, Sang Her, 56. While the exact relationship between the couples is not fully known, they were said to be part of the Hmong community.
The crash occurred at milepost 235 of US 6 and led to a partial closure of the highway for several hours. Authorities said the two occupants of the SUV, which caused the crash, sustained only minor injuries, as did the truck driver involved. The accident remains under investigation to determine whether any charges will be filed.
Sgt. Pugliese emphasized the importance of safe driving, urging motorists to remain cautious and give others ample space to avoid such tragedies.
