Fatal Deer Park pipeline explosion death of Jonathan McEvoy – Obituary.

Jonathan McEvoy, a 51-year-old resident of Deer Park, was identified as the driver involved in a catastrophic pipeline explosion after his vehicle struck a pipeline valve on September 16.

According to the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office, McEvoy was behind the wheel of a 2022 Lexus NX350 when it crashed through a fence near a Wal-Mart parking lot on Spencer Highway. The vehicle entered the nearby pipeline right-of-way, hitting an above-ground pipeline valve and triggering an explosion.

The fire resulting from the blast burned for three days, delaying the investigation until the area was deemed safe. Once the vehicle was towed, human remains were discovered inside and later confirmed to belong to McEvoy through radiography comparison.

McEvoy, described by his family as a loving father of three and an army veteran, had recently been experiencing seizures, which his family believes may have caused the crash. The cause of death and circumstances leading to the crash are still under investigation, and the case is being treated as a criminal inquiry.
