On September 16, McEvoy was operating a 2022 Lexus NX350 when he struck an above-ground valve, igniting a fire that raged for over three days and necessitated evacuations in the surrounding area.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences confirmed his identity through a technique known as radiography comparison, which analyzes skeletal remains to establish identity. By the time the flames were extinguished, only a partial skeleton remained. Witnesses described the vehicle’s erratic behavior before the collision, suggesting that McEvoy may have experienced a medical emergency.
The fire caused extensive damage, leading to evacuations and injuries among four individuals, including at least one firefighter. Residents in the vicinity suffered damage to homes and vehicles, with a claims process initiated by Energy Transfer for affected individuals.
