Fatal Warren crash death of Cedric Hayden and DeJuan Pettis – Obituary
Cedric Hayden, 34, and DeJuan Pettis, 33, lost their lives in a car crash in Warren, Michigan, early Monday morning. The accident, which took place at around 5 a.m. at the intersection of Schoenherr and Prospect, also left two Warren police officers injured, with one in critical condition.
According to police, the crash occurred when the officers’ patrol vehicle, a Ford Interceptor, collided with a white Dodge Durango driven by Hayden and Pettis as they attempted to turn west onto Prospect. One of the men was ejected from the vehicle, and both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The officers involved were taken to the hospital, where the driver was later released, but the officer in the passenger seat remains in the ICU after undergoing extensive surgery for head trauma and broken bones. The police have confirmed that the crash was not related to a vehicle pursuit, and the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an independent investigation into the incident, expected to take a few weeks to complete.
