An 18-year-old Grade 11 student, Ren Joseph Bayan, tragically lost his life during an alleged fraternity hazing ritual in Barangay San Anton, Nueva Ecija, on Sunday night, September 29. Bayan, a resident of Barangay San Pablo, was discovered dead after reportedly undergoing the final initiation rites for the Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity.
Jennifer Bayan, the victim’s 28-year-old aunt, informed investigators that Ren had mentioned his participation in the final stage of fraternity hazing earlier that day. Around 5 p.m., two neighbors, identified as Baron Cabado and Patrick Guinto—alleged fraternity members—brought Bayan’s body to his home.
Cabado and Guinto are now considered suspects in the case, according to police reports. Jennifer stated, “They claimed to have taken him to a doctor, but when we checked, no doctor had seen him.” She further revealed that Ren’s thighs were severely bruised, and doctors indicated that complications related to his kidneys and heart led to his death.
Police Major Herbert Ocumen, chief of police in Jaen, confirmed that a hot pursuit operation is currently underway to apprehend the suspects.
