Fatal Eau Claire shooting death of Chad Medlin – Obituary

A tragic shooting incident in Eau Claire has resulted in the death of 36-year-old firefighter Chad Medlin. Early Saturday morning, police responded to the scene at the intersection of Main and Elm Streets shortly before 1 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found Medlin unresponsive with life-threatening injuries, alongside another man who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where Medlin was pronounced dead.

 

The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Rigoberto Gomez of Eau Claire, was arrested shortly after the incident with the help of witnesses. He has been charged with multiple offenses, including murder, assault less than murder, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Gomez is currently held in the Berrien County Jail as the investigation continues.
