A tragic accident early on November 18, 2024, claimed the life of 39-year-old Michael Bailey from Norfolk, Virginia. Bailey was involved in a crash while trying to evade deputies after a traffic stop. The incident occurred around 12:40 a.m. on Laurens Street Northwest near Hampton Avenue in Aiken.
According to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy had stopped Bailey’s vehicle under suspicion of driving under the influence. However, Bailey fled the scene, leading to a pursuit. Bailey’s vehicle lost control, left the road, overturned, and crashed into a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:20 a.m. A passenger in the vehicle was injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. The investigation is ongoing, with an autopsy scheduled to determine the cause of death.
