Fatal Miami-Dade murder of Oscar Rene Hernandez Augustin – Obituary
Roiniel Perez, 31, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder with a weapon, grand theft, and other offenses after the discovery of the burned body of 52-year-old Oscar Rene Hernandez Augustin in southwest Miami-Dade. Authorities found Augustin’s remains on Thursday, located on a dirt road in the 23600 block of SW 227th Avenue. Augustin had been reported missing just two days prior, along with his white 2015 Toyota Corolla.
The victim’s body was severely burned from the waist down and showed signs of decomposition. An autopsy later confirmed he had been stabbed multiple times. The investigation took a significant turn when Perez was apprehended after fleeing a traffic stop while driving Augustin’s vehicle. He was involved in a brief police pursuit, which ended in a crash, before attempting to hide from officers under a parked car.
Further investigation linked Perez to the crime as he confessed to being with Augustin earlier on the day of his disappearance. Evidence such as Augustin’s bank cards and ID, blood found in the vehicle, and images on Perez’s cellphone connected him to the murder. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic case.
