Fatal Walnut Creek hit-and-run crash death of Gerardo Rosales Murillo – Obituary

Gerardo Rosales Murillo, a 15-year-old from San Jose, tragically lost his life early Sunday morning in a hit-and-run accident in Walnut Creek, according to the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:36 a.m. on Newell Avenue under the Interstate 680 overpass. Police believe the car, reportedly coming from Mount Diablo, struck a support pillar.

Murillo was seated in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. A Contra Costa County sheriff’s deputy arrived on the scene and performed CPR on him, but he later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

The driver, a 16-year-old, along with two other passengers, fled the scene on foot and were picked up by a family member who transported them to San Jose. Authorities arrested the driver on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run, though the other passengers were not taken into custody.

Investigators are working to determine whether drugs or alcohol played a role in this tragic crash.
