Fatal Carrboro, N.C. crash death of Lawrence Richard Edwards – Obituary

A police pursuit ended tragically on Monday night in Carrboro, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. Carrboro Police Chief Chris Atack shared that the incident began with a hit-and-run crash in Chapel Hill, reported just before 5 p.m. The fleeing vehicle was quickly located by Chapel Hill police, who attempted to pull it over as it entered Carrboro. The car, driven by 43-year-old Lawrence Richard Edwards from Chapel Hill, continued fleeing before crashing at the intersection of Oak Avenue and East Poplar Avenue.

Edwards and his passenger, 43-year-old Jonathan Lynn Blancett from Durham, both lost their lives in the crash. Authorities have confirmed that no other injuries were sustained.

Investigators believe speed played a significant role in the crash, and neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident. Toxicology reports are still awaited. The Carrboro Police Department, along with the Chapel Hill Police Department and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, are currently looking into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
