Jean C. Marsden dies in fatal Floyd school bus crash
Fatal Floyd school bus crash death of Jean C. Marsden – Obituary
A tragic collision involving two school buses on Rickmeyer Road in Floyd claimed the life of a bus driver on Friday afternoon, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office. The crash, which happened just before 3 p.m., left one driver dead and sent three individuals to the hospital with injuries. Three other students involved were unharmed.
Investigators determined that severe whiteout conditions caused by strong winds played a major role in the accident. Both buses belonged to the Holland Patent School District.
Authorities reported that Michael J. Page, 57, of Stittville, was heading south with three students aboard when his bus apparently veered into the opposite lane. This led to a head-on collision with a northbound bus operated by Jean C. Marsden, 58, of Holland Patent, who was transporting two students. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles.
Marsden was pronounced dead at the scene. The two students riding in her bus were taken to Wynn Hospital in Utica for treatment, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening. Page sustained a foot injury and was also transported to the hospital. Meanwhile, the three students on Page’s bus were assessed on-site and later released to their parents.
Due to their ages, authorities did not disclose the names of the students involved.
Emergency crews closed the road for several hours to provide aid and clear the wreckage. Clinton Collision was called in to remove the damaged buses.
Attempts to contact the Holland Patent School District for comment were unsuccessful on Friday afternoon. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
