Fatal North Hilo car crash death of Anina Masaichy
The family of a woman who died in a serious head-on collision on Saddle Road in North Hilo the previous week is appealing for community assistance.
Loved ones initiated a fundraising campaign on a GoFundMe platform to cover funeral expenses for Anina Masaichy, aged 47 from Kailua-Kona, and to help with medical costs for those still healing from the accident.
The online fundraising appeal, authored by the victim’s daughter, Joeanny Masaichy, conveys, “Any support — be it through donations, prayers, or by sharing our story — would exceed our capacity to express gratitude. Your kindness and generosity will assist us in finding fortitude and hope as we begin to reconstruct our lives without our mother, Anina.”
The accident transpired on Daniel K. Inouye Highway, commonly referred to as Saddle Road, on Thursday, October 23, approximately 5 p.m., in the North Hilo region.
According to law enforcement, a Toyota pickup truck was traveling towards Hilo and passed by several other vehicles on Saddle Road. This vehicle then collided head-on with a Subaru that was moving in the opposite direction.
As a consequence of the collision, the five people inside the Subaru were taken to hospitals for medical care.
One of the passengers in the backseat of the Subaru was confirmed to be Anina Masaichy.
The other five individuals occupying the Subaru are: a three-week-old infant girl, a four-year-old boy, a 17-year-old girl, and two adults— an 18-year-old female and a 51-year-old male.
All five individuals involved in the Subaru incident sustained significant injuries.
