Police in Alabama have identified three of the four people killed in a mass shooting in Birmingham that also left 17 others wounded over the weekend. The tragic event unfolded on Saturday when multiple shooters opened fire on a large crowd gathered on a sidewalk in a busy nightlife district.
The Birmingham Police Department confirmed that three men and one woman lost their lives in the shooting. The victims identified so far include 21-year-old Anitra Holloman, 27-year-old Tahj Booker, and 27-year-old Carlos McCain, with the identity of the fourth male victim yet to be confirmed.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene to find Holloman, Booker, and McCain unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. All three were pronounced dead at the scene. The fourth male victim succumbed to his injuries at UAB Hospital.
Authorities believe that the suspects used firearms modified with machine gun conversion devices during the attack, with more than 100 shell casings recovered from the scene. Police say the incident was not a random act but stemmed from an isolated conflict that resulted in multiple bystanders being caught in the crossfire.
