Fatal Stockton shooting death of Keyera Shepard – Obituary
Keyera Shepard, 26, was identified as the woman killed in a tragic domestic violence incident that escalated into a shooting and standoff in Stockton. The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed her identity on Sunday night.
The Stockton Police Department responded to a report of domestic violence and gunfire at an apartment on the 3200 block of Blue Ridge Circle. According to Officer David Scott, when officers arrived, they encountered a 39-year-old suspect, Sim Jackson, who fired several shots at them. One officer returned fire, but no one was struck.
Jackson then retreated into the apartment, leading to a standoff that lasted nearly 90 minutes before he eventually surrendered without injury. Inside the apartment, police found three gunshot victims: Keyera Shepard, who was pronounced dead at the scene; a 30-year-old woman with non-life-threatening injuries; and an infant who was critically injured but stable.
Authorities believe the suspect and victims were known to each other. Jackson faces charges including homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, child endangerment, and multiple weapons violations. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
