Authorities have identified the motorcyclist who tragically lost his life in a crash on the North Side this past Saturday. According to a statement from the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office, the victim was 64-year-old Robert W. Magel from DeForest. The incident occurred shortly before 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of North Stoughton Road and Rieder Road.
A forensic examination conducted on Sunday confirmed that Magel succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident. Additional testing is still in progress, and the Madison police, along with the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office, continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
Magel and a friend were riding motorcycles in the area when the friend realized Magel was no longer following. Upon turning back, he found Magel in a ditch. Police reviewed surveillance footage and spoke to witnesses, concluding that Magel was unable to negotiate a turn, which resulted in him being ejected from his motorcycle.
