Authorities have confirmed the identities of both the victim and the suspect involved in a murder-suicide that occurred on Wednesday in Astoria. Police discovered the couple, who were married, with gunshot wounds in the office of the Bayshore Apartments located near 1400 West Marine Drive late that morning.
The incident was reported by an apartment maintenance worker who found one of the individuals on the floor, severely injured and bleeding. Denise Mathew, 51, who managed the apartments, was identified as the female victim. Her husband, Scott Mathew, 57, has been named as the shooter who subsequently took his own life.
