The Berlin Police Department has identified the 1-year-old girl who tragically lost her life in a three-vehicle collision on the Berlin Turnpike. Ella Salgado was a passenger in a vehicle involved in the accident that occurred around 2:50 p.m. on Saturday.
In the aftermath of this devastating event, the community is uniting to support Ella’s family, who have created a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs.
According to police reports, two adults and two other children were injured in the crash and are currently recovering. Ella was rushed to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford, where she was pronounced dead.
The Berlin Volunteer Fire Department has appealed to the public for assistance, encouraging donations to the GoFundMe page to support the family during this tragic time.
Mark Salgado, Ella’s father, expressed his heartbreak on the GoFundMe page, stating, “I am in disbelief that I am making this page right now asking for help for a funeral. My beautiful daughter Ella Salgado was involved in a horrible accident today on the Berlin Turnpike in Connecticut, where she unfortunately lost her life, and at this time we are not financially able to afford the cost of the funeral.”
The accident, involving three vehicles, took place near the intersection of Route 5 (Berlin Turnpike) and North Colony Road. The investigation is being conducted by the Midstate Accident Reconstruction Squad and the Berlin Police Department’s investigation unit.
