Nicole Morey, 23, tragically lost her life after being attacked by her four dogs, including an XL Bully, at her home in Fedamore, Limerick, on June 3. Her sister, Jolene Morey, is now calling for more comprehensive laws to address the danger posed by certain breeds, arguing that the newly implemented regulations do not go far enough.
The legislation, which came into effect today, prohibits the import, breeding, or sale of XL Bullies, but current owners may keep their pets if they meet specific requirements. Despite the new law, Jolene expressed frustration, noting that her sister complied with all regulations, yet the attack still occurred. She believes stricter measures are needed to prevent future tragedies.
Nicole had been celebrating her birthday before returning home, where she was fatally attacked. Despite efforts by the Garda’s armed response unit, Nicole could not be saved, and one of the dogs was shot during the intervention. All four dogs involved were later euthanized.
The incident was captured on CCTV, and Jolene first learned of the attack through a distressing video that circulated on social media. She expressed her anguish over the footage and urged the public to remember her sister for her kind heart, not the tragic circumstances surrounding her death.
