Authorities are investigating the murder of 62-year-old retired Felcra finance officer Sabari Baharom, whose death is believed to have stemmed from a robbery gone wrong. Reports indicate that two prime suspects, a contractor and his nephew aged 38 and 26, confessed to killing Baharom after he recognized one of them during a robbery at his home in Kampung Mengkuang Tengah on September 4.
The suspects had befriended Baharom while working on renovations nearby and later decided to rob him, taking cash, valuables, and bank cards. Following a struggle, they abducted him, bound his hands, and taped his mouth before disposing of his body in the Sungai Padang Terap. The suspects attempted to destroy evidence by burning Baharom’s car 60 kilometers away.
The investigation began to gain traction when police tracked a woman seen using Baharom’s ATM card, leading to the identification and arrest of the suspects upon their return from a holiday in Batam, Indonesia. Police have launched extensive search operations to locate Baharom’s remains, expanding the search area to 12.8 kilometers as of October 1, with no findings reported yet.
