Yuxi Wu dies in fatal Kansas City scooter accident
Fatal Kansas City scooter accident death of Yuxi Wu – Obituary.
Yuxi Wu, a University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) student and conservatory pianist, tragically passed away on Thursday after being hit by a car while crossing Troost Avenue on her scooter around noon. Wu was transported to the hospital following the accident but later succumbed to her injuries.
The Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) reported that Wu was attempting to cross the street when she was struck by the vehicle. Local residents expressed concerns that the incident might have been prevented if a stoplight had been installed at the intersection of E. 51st Street and Troost Avenue, where speeding is a frequent issue despite the posted 35 mph limit.
Courtney Crappell, Dean of the UMKC Conservatory, shared the news with students and offered condolences to Wu’s family. Wu had just begun her Master of Music degree in Piano Performance this fall and was remembered by her professor, Sean Chen, as a dedicated and kind student.
UMKC is offering counseling services to help the campus community cope with the loss.
