A tragic incident occurred in Banna, Ilocos Norte, on November 21, 2024, when a truck carrying several passengers plunged into a ravine, resulting in the death of 22-year-old Marco Llanes. The victim, who was reportedly trapped beneath sacks of rice loaded onto the truck, did not survive the crash.
According to the police, the truck’s brakes malfunctioned, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. In the aftermath, five others, including the driver, sustained injuries but were promptly rescued by emergency responders from the police and Bureau of Fire Protection.
Authorities confirmed that the group of farmers was on their way home at the time of the accident. “He [Marco Llanes] was the only one who was trapped and injured in the vehicle,” said PCapt. Emerito Mamenta, Chief of Banna Police Station.
Law enforcement is reminding motorists to ensure their vehicles are properly maintained, particularly when navigating hilly areas.
