Sgt. Jeremy Cole, a police officer with Endicott College in Exeter, New Hampshire, tragically passed away after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 95 early Thursday morning. Massachusetts State Police reported that shortly after midnight, a Tesla was traveling south in the northbound lanes, heading toward Newbury. Troopers observed the vehicle and prepared to deploy a tire-deflation device in Georgetown, but before reaching it, the Tesla collided head-on with Cole’s Chevrolet Trailblazer near mile marker 81.
Sgt. Cole was driving home after completing his evening shift and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Tesla driver, a man in his 40s, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. He is expected to face charges related to the crash. Authorities closed the highway in both directions to allow for the investigation, which remains ongoing.
Endicott College Police Chief Kerry Ramsdell expressed the department’s grief, noting that Cole was a dedicated officer who had been serving the community before tragically losing his life.
