An 18-year-old motorcyclist, Kyle Zachary Jenkins of Maungatapere, was found dead near WhangÄrei last Wednesday, January 29. Authorities have determined he was the victim of a homicide.
Jenkins’ body was discovered in a creek along State Highway 15-ÅŒtaika Valley Road around 5 a.m., with his motorcycle left nearby in a lay-by area. A subsequent autopsy confirmed that he had died from a gunshot wound.
Police have launched a homicide investigation to determine what led to the tragic event and to identify those responsible. Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Pilmer expressed condolences to Jenkins’ family, who are grieving and have requested privacy.
