Fatal East Columbia neighborhood shooting death of Shaud’e Leigh Hutchison – Obituary
Authorities have confirmed that 31-year-old Shaud’e Leigh Hutchison was the victim of a fatal shooting in Portland’s East Columbia neighborhood on March 4. The Portland Police Bureau released her identity after notifying her family, who also provided a photograph for public release.
The Medical Examiner determined that Hutchison’s cause of death was a gunshot wound, officially ruling her death a homicide.
Officers from the North Precinct responded to reports of gunfire near Northeast Gertz Road and North Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. at approximately 1:15 p.m. Upon their arrival, they found Hutchison had succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Following an investigation, police arrested 42-year-old Aaron Rene Garza of Portland in connection with the shooting. Garza has been charged with second-degree murder and is currently being held at the Multnomah County Detention Center.
A vigil in honor of Hutchison is scheduled to take place at the site of the incident at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
