Fatal San Antonio crash death of Victor Zarate Avila – Obituary
Authorities have confirmed the identity of the man who died in a tragic crash early Saturday morning on the West Side of San Antonio.
Around 12:40 a.m. on March 8, police responded to the intersection of West Travis and Northwest 24th streets, where a Nissan Sentra and a Chevrolet Silverado collided. The crash occurred after the driver of the Silverado, 27-year-old Arthur Hugo Ruiz, ran a stop sign.
Victor Zarate Avila, 24, was a passenger in the Nissan and was ejected during the crash. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ruiz fled the scene but was later captured by officers a few blocks away. He showed signs of intoxication and was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Ruiz faces charges of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle. Authorities also plan to charge the Nissan’s driver with collision involving death.
The investigation is ongoing.
