Fatal Wayne shooting death of Brian Anthony Browning
Police have identified the individual who was killed after a security guard shot him following an attack near a Michigan church.
The Associated Press reports that 31-year-old Brian Anthony Browning was killed outside CrossPointe Community Church in Wayne.
According to the Wayne Police Department, Browning was armed with an AR-15-style assault rifle, multiple ammunition magazines, and a semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine.
Officials stated that Browning’s mother is a member of the church, and he had attended services sporadically over the past year. He showed no prior ties to local law enforcement or criminal records but may have been experiencing a mental health crisis.
Browning died at the scene after being struck by a pickup truck driven by a church member, which gave church security time to fatally shoot him. Approximately 150 people were inside the church during the incident.
Wayne Police Chief Ryan Strong praised the church staff for their quick actions, saying their heroism prevented a potential mass shooting.
